"I first met Liam while doing a speedskating camp in Fairbanks, Alaska, in 2002 and instantly knew that this young kid had Olympic potential. He was a natural skater and athlete in terms of raw talent and he possessed the desire, heart, and enthusiasm to make an Olympic team.
I am confident that Liam will fulfill his goal of competing in the 2010 Olympics."
Sue Ellis,
2002 Olympic Team Coach
"Liam Ortega is an outstanding young man and one of the finest student-athletes to come out of Fairbanks, Alaska."
Jim Villano,
former teacher
My name is Liam Francisco Ortega. In June, 2003, I left Fairbanks, Alaska to pursue my dream of an Oympic gold medal, representing the United States as a speedskater.
I'm working harder than ever, and thanks to my many supporters in Fairbanks and other places, my dream is getting closer than ever.
In these pages you can learn more about me, my dream, and my challenges. Check out my schedule to follow my progress, and leave a comment or two on my blog.

It has taken the support of friends and family to reach my goals to this point. It will take your support for me to represent Alaska and the United States at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.
My focus is to make the U.S. World Cup team this fall and climb the world rankings to the top of the podium. I need your support to focus on this goal while in Salt Lake and while on the World Cup circuit. The life of an elite athlete allows little room during the season for time away from the sport. I am committed to this goal and your financial support would allow me to do what I do best - work hard, focus and achieve. Great feats cannot be accomplished without great sacrifice and support. I am willing and able to make the sacrifice, but I need your support.
